5 THINGS EVERY ENTREPRENEUR NEEDS TO DO TO KICK OFF THE NEW YEAR ON A GOOD FOOT
Leaping into the new year can feel one of two ways – like you are prepared to tackle anything thrown your way, or like you could have done a bit more business planning…
But no matter how much planning you have completed today, here are the five things you should check off your to-do list as you head into 2019 to set yourself up for success.
1. Revisit your mission, values and BHAGIn addition to your routine evaluation throughout the year, it is especially important to revisit you mission, values and your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) at the beginning of the new year, with a clear lens and a clean slate. Much like a new year’s resolution.

It is important to note that this is not a complete revamp of your current mission, values, and BHAG, but rather a thought-provoking and comprehensive reflection. Start by asking yourself these questions:
· Are you operating your business in a manner that is aligned with your mission?
· Is your organization behaving consistent with your current values?
· Are you on track with your BHAG?
If you are answering no, think about what you can change and/or implement to resolve the issue and get back in line during the new year. A reflection of the previous year and projection for the upcoming year will lead you in the right direction.
2. Prioritize your Personal Calendar
Yes, your personal calendar! This means physically blocking off time on your calendar to do the things in your personal life that need attention.
Family time; dinner with friends; workouts; vacations; golfing; Anything you value!
It is essential to MAKE the time rather than constantly trying to find the time that does not exist (as these items generally get pushed to the wayside as “more important” business items come along). Even something as simple as blocking off time to be home for family dinner can make a world of difference for an entrepreneur. It is important to integrate your personal and professional agendas to avoid neglecting the personal commitments that matter most to you (and your sanity!).
3. DOCTORS ORDERS: Schedule a physical!
We get it. The busy life of an entrepreneur leaves little time for things like annual visits. And as much as we would love to believe “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” we all know these famous words are not ones to live by. Your physical wellness and mental wellbeing are everything. You cannot thrive without them. Get your annual appointment on your calendar!

4. Review your budget
Although your budget should have been completed going into to 2019, (and if it hasn’t, get to it!) review, re-think and make sure it is right.
Consider the unforeseen curve-balls that can happen. Take on the new year with a proactive, rather than reactive, lens.
5. Get up-to-date with your technology plan
This is especially important for small businesses since in today’s world you just can’t do it on your own anymore. That does not mean going out to buy the new iPhone X, but you do need to evaluate the technology you’re currently using (at home and throughout your office).
Review your technology plan. Are your current systems and security protocols adequate? Do you need to upgrade? Technology is constantly changing, and evolving rapidly. Get educated and don’t be afraid to consider expanding or adopting new technologies that you never really thought about before on an efficiency and security standpoint. Be aware of potential threats, as cyber security continues to be a big issue.
